Welcome to the Rocky Mountain Miniatures homepage. We are dedicated to breeding, raising, and selling quality miniature milk cows for families or small businesses.
In 2008 our parents expressed a desire to become more self sufficient, we already had chickens and had raised sheep for many years, we also had a few horses and a hay field. They knew they wanted some sort of milk cow, but they weren't sure what to get. Mary was gung-ho about the idea and wanted to take them on, in hearing this I was also interested. Mary was adamant that she wanted to be responsible for them. However my mom didn't want her 9 and 11 year old trying to control a huge Holstein or Jersey, and she didn't want the amount of milk that those cows would produce. We began searching for alternatives and found Anthony Cabral and cross roads dairy in Delta Ut. More importantly we found Anthony's side business, Mini Cattle Pro's. Although his family already had a full blown dairy of around 7,000 Holstein, Anthony, who loves to play with genetics started breeding miniature or Ling-Ling cattle. His "hobby farm" had an occupancy of over 3,000 different kinds of miniatures. After contacting Anthony we found that these were exactly what we were looking for, they are truly amazing. We drove out and visited with Anthony all day, we expressed our questions and concerns, he was so kind to help us figure out what we wanted and what would fit our needs best. We picked out 3 calves under a year old and took them home. It has slowly snowballed into over 30 miniature cattle, some angus cows, and beefalo. We have enjoyed breeding, raising, and selling these animals to people who are just getting started. And sending them home with something that will become some of the most fun family memories. Something to help your kids understand and value life, hard work, and problem solving while they help support your family with milk and meat from your very own back yard. Its not only doable in almost any circumstance but it's enjoyable and fulfilling.
Here are three reasons why we picked miniature cattle:
- They're size. Perfect for small spaces or pieces of land, and manageable for kids or teenagers. They don't eat a lot considering how well they produce and they are AMAZING weed eaters. (Forget goats these things can CLEAN a patch of land quicker than anything I've seen!)
- Heartiness. Because they're a mixture of usually three different breeds of cattle they have what is commonly known as Hybrid vigor (heterosis) which means they hardly ever get sick and they recover quickly from difficult births or injuries.
- Quality and quantity. These cows generally give 1-2 gallons a milking, and they can thrive on grass feed. We have eaten them before and received a surprising amount of beef. They are easy to feed and produce stellar results.
